 Vanish Liquid Dechlorinator
Even low levels of chlorine and chloramines can be extremely toxic to fish. Chlorine is a very powerful oxidizing agent and it is toxic to fish at concentrations of less than 0.05 mg/L. Water used for fish culture should not contain any residual chlorine to be considered safe. Chlorine and chloramines cause gill damage which eventually results in gill lesions. These lesions will eventually thicken the gill filaments leaving the fish unable to utilize oxygen and release carbon dioxide, thus resulting in fish death. Vanish Dechlorinator (Liquid) will work to break the chlorine and chloramine bonds (chlorine + ammonia = chloramine) and reduce the chlorine and ammonia down to non-toxic levels. Vanish Dechlorinator Liquid will remove Chlorine, Chloramine, Ammonia, Heavy Metals & adds a Stress Coat Protectant for fish.
Vanish Dechlorinators (Liquid & Dry) active ingredient is sodium thiosulfate which is widely used to break down chlorine and chloramines and is considered non-toxic to fish. Sodium thiosulfate was chosen because it provides a very effective solution for use in water gardens and ponds because of its ability to break the chloramine bond and chemically remove the chlorine after a short working time. Aeration of the water will allow the ammonia, which was released from the chloramine bond, to escape as a gas over a period of one to two hours. Any remaining ammonia will be filtered out through flow through filters which most often contain activated carbon or some type of filter material.

 AmmoniaFix Nitrifying Bacteria
CrystalClear AmmoniaFix is also an all-natural bacteria and enzyme based product specifically designed to polish water by completing the nitrification cycle. CrystalClear AmmoniaFix contains special strains of bacteria that will safely convert ammonia to nitrite and nitrite to nitrate via a process known as nitrification. Once this process is complete toxic ammonia has been converted to harmless nitrate which can be utilized by aquatic plants as a nutrient source. CrystalClear AmmoniaFix will remove some nitrate on an anaerobic level but most of the remaining nitrate will be used by aquatic plants.
Ammonia is extremely toxic in its un-ionized form and non-toxic in its ionized form. This can be controlled by keeping pond water at low pH levels. At low pH levels ammonia will ionize and at levels higher than 7.2 ammonia begins to un-ionize and becomes more and more toxic. Ammonia at high levels will burn the surface of fish scales and gills thereby stressing the fish to the point of death. This dilemma can be diverted by simply applying a good nitrifying bacteria such as CrystalClear AmmoniaFix.
Biologically, nitrogen compounds may be stripped of their oxygen and other compounds by certain types of bacteria which are found in CrystalClear AmmoniaFix. These bacteria, when they are restricted from access to oxygen, utilize nitrogen compounds instead of oxygen for respiratory purposes and biochemically pull away the oxygen component of the nitrogen ion. The net result of this process (denitrification) is nitrogen gas which is a bi-product of this cycle, thus completing the nitrification cycle. Once the nitrification cycle is complete the net result should be little to no ammonia, nitrite or nitrate levels and a significant clearing of water.
Nitrifying bacteria will readily colonize on the bottom of the pond and especially on the filter. As the water flows over the filter the bacteria will begin to work and pull nutrients from the water so we suggest (as with the other bacteria products) applying the products directly into the filter in order for the best and most effective results to be achieved.

Most naturally occurring bacteria cannot keep up with the constant load of organics and algae entering the pond.  Biological Clarifier PLUS
CrystalClear Biological Clarifier PLUS (Dry) is an all-natural, freeze-dried bacteria and enzyme complex formulated to remove nasty water and organic sludge.  Before using CrystalClear pH Salts Up, test the pH of the water first with CrystalClear Test Strips. This should give a good indication of your pH level before you apply CrystalClear pH Salts Up.
CrystalClear pH Salts Up will raise the pH of pond water to within safe levels. It is recommended to be used only when the pH of a pond is lower than 6.0. It is importan to note that pH is typically lowest at dawn and higher at dusk. Fish respiration lowers the pH and photosynthesis raises the pH. Thus, it is very important to test your pond pH at the same time each day. Adjust pH at 0.2 points per day. A drastic change in pH may cause stress or even death in ornamental fish. |

 pH Salts Down
Before using CrystalClear pH Salts Down, make sure the alkalinity (carbonate concentration or buffering capacity) of your water is about 80 ppm. We suggest buffering the alkalinity with CrystalClear Buffer. It is also a good idea to test the water's pH first with CrystalClear Test Strips.
If the pH is about 8.5-9.0 apply CrystalClear pH Salts Down. Most ornamental fish can adjust to a pH within 1or 2 points from neutral (7.0), but it is very important to make pH changes gradually if fish are present. If possible, adjust pH before adding fish.
CrystalClear pH Salts Down will safely and efficiently lower the pH of an ornamental pond within safe ranges (6.5-9.0). If you water is hard or alkaline, a higher dose of CrystalClear pH Salts Down may be required.

 SapHGuard pH Buffer
All ponds are affected by pH. Alkalinity or acidity will determine whether the pH is high or low, respectively. In order to maintain pH at a constant it requires buffering the system, which means controlling the alkalinity of the water. Alkalinity is the capacity of a natural water system to resist change in pH and is measured in terms of bicarbonate and carbonate ions available in the aquatic system.
Mixtures of weak acids and their salts are called buffers. Carbonate is usually the most significant buffer system in natural waters and is the system that is usually responsible for pH maintenance in aquatic ecosystems. CrystalClear SapHGuard is a pH buffer solution designed to resist pH change because of the ionization equilibrium between the weak acid and weak base changes in a manner that allows them to consume hydrogen ions or hydroxide ions that are added to the system. The initial pH of an aquatic system will be controlled by the ionization constant that exists, which depends on the relative concentration of acid or base and its salt. Solutions at pH below 7.0 are acid, those above 7.0 are basic (alkaline).
CrystalClear SapHGuard resists changes in pH by releasing or absorbing hydrogen ion as necessary to maintain a steady state. The level of sodium bicarbonate and other buffering agents present in the system help establish the equilibrium pH. If a hydrogen ion, from respiration or the dissolution of atmospheric carbon dioxide, is added to a buffered water system, it will be captured by carbonate to form bicarbonate. Thus there will be no addition of free hydrogen ions to the system and the pH will not be reduced. As long as there is a source of hydrogen ions from bicarbonate, the pH of an aquatic system will not rise.
CrystalClear SapHGuard will add alkalinity to an aquatic environment. As mentioned above alkalinity is the measure of carbonate concentration or the buffering capacity of water. It is essential for all water gardens and ponds to maintain a buffering capacity between 80-240 ppm for proper pH stabilization. A properly buffered system resists changes in pH due to acid rain and other external factors. Alkalinity is also essential for bacteria to complete the nitrification process which allows ammonia to be converted to nitrite and nitrite to nitrate.
CrystalClear SapHGuard will help prevent wide pH swings which are very common from dawn to dusk due to respiration and photosynthesis. If buffering capacity is too low, CrystalClear SapHGuard will increase pH stability and will increase buffering capacity.
